‘Grey’s Anatomy’ season 10, episode 7 review: Halloween leads to tricks, treats, and smiles
Tonight’s “Grey’s Anatomy” was designed to be a Halloween one-off of sorts, and it is thanks to that you are probably sitting here right now and wondering whether or not there was any real point to sitting down and watching this episode live. After all, there really was not all that much that actually happened over the course of the hour that is going to make much of a difference in the long-term for the show.
The biggest thing that probably happened through “Thriller” was a revelation mostly that despite having checkered pasts, it is still possible for fences to be mended, and people to move forward. Callie and Arizona managed to do that at least for the sake of their daughter on Halloween, and Cristina and Owen bonded briefly over surgery. It was a calm before what is probably going to be a storm coming a little bit later in the season.
When it comes to the story of Alex and Jo, it was mostly this week all about her just trying to figure out if the man would ever stop being the walking curmudgeon of the Grey-Sloan Memorial Hospital. He wasn’t opening up, and it was difficult to even get a word in edgewise. That was a problem, but Meredith’s advice was simple: Keep with it. That’s it, unless you found the random trick-or-treat visit from Jo wearing a Tinker Bell costume to be interesting. There really was no forward movement in almost anything, except for maybe the realization that Ben ended his job in order to take on a gig elsewhere, and Cristina realizing that she really was not better off being surrounded with children at Meredith’s Halloween party.
With all of this being said, “Thriller” was still an entertaining hour that at least brought plenty of Halloween flavor, a guy thinking that he was attacked by a zombie, and the realization that Heather was helping homeless people under the table. All in all, this wasn’t bad for an hour that didn’t move the major stories forward much. Grade: B.
