‘Doctor Who’ 50th anniversary special: Matt Smith speaks out as 3D screenings sell out
Is there a demand to watch the “Doctor Who” 50th anniversary special on the big screen? You better believe it. Despite the simple fact that you can really just stay at home and watch this show on your television for free, the hundred-plus screenings of the event in movie theaters around Britain have all managed to already sell out. This clearly shows that there is an enormous demand for this series in its home country, and is not going to die out at any point in the near future. As a matter of fact, this special may be the biggest moment in the entire history of the show.
Just as the announcement of the sell-out first hit the internet, we also have a pair of quotes from two of the special’s stars talking about the project. In a chat with the Daily Mirror, Matt Smith starts things off here by praising just all of the many joys that are going to come out of the opportunity to watch the special in this dimension:
“My chin is in 3D. I think it’s about time. Frankly I think it’s exciting. I think this show was born for 3D. The TARDIS in 3D looks brilliant.”
Just in case you are not enthused about the option of watching the special with a pair of glasses (which we completely understand, given that we don’t really care that much for it either), the following tease from David Tennant should have you rather excited instead:
“I think what works with this is the script is very story led, rather than fill it with things that make people ‘oh it’s a special anniversary lovely birthday thing’.”
This special will feature some other past cast members from the series, and also special guest star John Hurt as the mysterious Doctor who previously gave up his name and the responsibilities that come with it.
