‘The X Factor’ USA: Simon Cowell awkwardly sings ‘Power Rangers’ theme for charity (video)

The latest -It’s good to see that Simon Cowell is keeping himself busy in the time until “The X Factor” USA returns with new episodes a little later this year. What is the music mogul up to? He is finding time to attend charity events, and then potentially embarrassing himself in order to help out a cause.

At the Friends of the Israel Defense Forces fundraiser on Tuesday night, the music mogul was present alongside “Power Rangers” creator / hero to children everywhere in 1994 Haim Saban, and he convinced Cowell to sing the start of the “Mighty Morphin’ Power Rangers” theme song to facilitate a $1 million donation. Just to make things even funnier, Saban though ponied up $250,000 of Cowell’s money even after he publicly embarrassed himself. In other words, Haim may be one of the best charity campaigners ever.

If there is one other thing that we learned courtesy of watching this video, it is that Cowell at one point had actually attempted to get some sort of rights to do a musical production in the UK themed around the show, but at the time Saban thought it was a crazy idea, and really did not have any idea who Simon was. This was of course before Cowell became an international star thanks to “American Idol” and then his own talent competition, but it doesn’t really surprise us that the man is a fan. Despite being a feared producer and judge, the guy is young at heart, and watches “The Flintstones” on a regular basis and cites it as one of his favorite programs.

As for what else Simon has going on right now, it is pretty simple: In addition to preparing for the “X Factor” live shows and monitoring the happenings of the original version in Britain, he is also celebrating the release of Fifth Harmony’s new EP “Better Together,” which came out earlier this week and came with a pretty affordable price tag of just under $5.00.

How awesome do you think Simon is for going through with this, or do you still claim that he is pretty lame for only singing such a tiny part of it? Be sure to share your thoughts below.
