‘The Walking Dead’ season 4 continues to dominate, but fails to set another record

More news -The numbers are in, and it seems that viewers are still flocking to “The Walking Dead” in droves; however, the show did not come anywhere close this week to breaking its own record set with the premiere.

After shocking the TV universe by getting an audience of more than 16 million people on October 13, Sunday night’s new episode posted close to 14 million and also a 7.1 rating in the 18-49 demographic (down from an 8.2 the week prior). Even with this drop, though, consider that this was still a better number than any show has done on broadcast TV all year, save for of course “Sunday Night Football” on NBC. This, dear friends, is what we like to call walker domination.

In seeing this drop, though, you of course have to wonder if the zombie army has finally hit its peak? Sooner or later, there is going to be a ceiling in which the AMC drama is not going to be able to reach again, and we think that we may have just seen it. The end of the fourth season is when most shows tend to start to lose some steam, though there are some others out there (see “Breaking Bad”) where this doesn’t happen. Of course, the difference between the two is that many people did not even know “Breaking Bad” existed until its fourth season, whereas this series has already been substantially well-covered across the internet. It already is at a point where it is going to be hard for it to get much higher from here. Its best shot at breaking its own record? Either the fall finale, the winter premiere, or the end of season 4 as a whole. After that, we would be surprised if season 5 comes back and somehow posts even larger numbers than it ever has before.

What do you think: Have we finally hit the ceiling for “The Walking Dead,” or do you imagine that there is still a little bit of room to grow for Andrew Lincoln and company?
