‘Sons of Anarchy’ season 6: Charlie Hunnam on ‘Fifty Shades of Grey,’ possible longer season 7

Jax -So what does Charlie Hunnam have to say about his “Fifty Shades of Grey” exit? For the first time since the shocking news surfaced earlier this month that he was no longer playing the character of Christian Grey, he is speaking out, but also staying mostly quiet when it comes to his reasoning for taking off.

Speaking to E! News about how he is trying to move forward, the mostly private Hunnam explained that he is keeping busy by focusing on his work, and also spending time with his family after his father passed away earlier this year:

“I am doing good. I am just really concentrating on work. It’s been a really busy time … I have had some family stuff going on so just trying to stay focused and stay positive and keep trying to do a good job at work and be with my family and stay positive.”

So for those of you who are insane fans of the “Fifty Shades of Grey” franchise, that is probably all you are going to get on him being no longer a part of the project, at least for now. He may open up a little bit more down the road after the hoopla around him has died down, but for the time being caution seems to be a little bit more of his game.

The bigger news for “Sons of Anarchy” fans is going to be hearing more about the possibility that season 7 could be extended, which we’re hoping means eight episode blocks in the fall and spring rather than airing eight episodes a year a la “Breaking Bad”:

“There’s rumor that we might do a couple of more episodes and do a little bit of an extended season next year, so we will see if that happens. It may or it may not. But I just want to finish that strong and go on to a new chapter of life.”

Don’t mistake this as a sign that Charlie is ready and waiting to leave the show. He’s already said that he will stay on however long that it takes creator Kurt Sutter to complete his vision. He’s also getting to do some other work in the meantime, as he has a film with Guillermo del Toro he is working on next year.
