‘Doctor Who’ 50th anniversary: See official photo of Matt Smith, David Tennant, all Doctors

The latest - For the “Doctor Who” 50th anniversary, the BBC is bringing the whole family back together, at least in the form of a brand-new tribute poster that features all of the men who have played the famed Doctor over the years together in a pretty beautiful image. Whether you are talking about William Hartnell or Matt Smith, all of them are there and accounted for.

While this may be just something as simple as a photo, it yet again represents something pretty significant in the BBC’s strength and commitment to making this show into a massive global success. There were so many years in the 1990s and early 2000s where it felt like the days of the Doctor were dormant, as the show lay on a shelf without any real hope of coming back. But since the arrival of David Tennant, it has exploded once again in popularity and has taken on a devoted international following.

Now when the 50th anniversary special airs on November 23, you will have that long-awaited opportunity to see just how much the series has changed since the early days, and whether or not this measure of growth is something that it can continue for decades to come. The great thing now about the franchise is that they keep it sparse enough so that there is constant a demand for more of it, but at the same time, it airs frequently enough for viewers to not forget about it. That is a very difficult balance to figure out, especially since most American audiences tend to develop a little bit of greed and air a show time and time again until it has been drilled into the ground and beyond recognition.
