Paula Abdul joins ‘So You Think You Can Dance’ … in Australia
Did you enjoy seeing Paula Abdul appearing on “So You Think You Can Dance” this season as a guest judge? Well, the former “American Idol” judge / pop superstar / judge of her own short-lived show “Live to Dance” has found a way to parlay that into a full-time gig. Unfortunately for fans of hers in America, this is a gig that is not exactly close to home.
As confirmed by publication Herald Sun, Abdul is joining the panel of “So You Think You Can Dance Australia” this coming season, where she will help to find some of the best talent Down Under in a competition that will feel very similar to the one in America. Here is what Paula had to say on the matter in a statement:
“I am thrilled to be a part of this great show and to experience first-hand the skill, passion and athleticism of these dancers. Aussie dancers are without doubt some of the best in the world and it is an honour for me to be a part of finding Australia’s best dancer.”
The first thing that we have to say on this subject is that we’re happy first and foremost that there even is a “So You Think You Can Dance” in Australia, given that the versions of the show in the United Kingdom and Canada failed to attract enough of an audience. While we were thrilled to see the American version renewed, we were admittedly scared to death about its renewal odds as the show was nearing the end of its season this summer. It’s a wonderful franchise, but one that only appeals to a small demographic of people.
While there are occasionally moments as a judge that Paula can be maddening, she is also great at being encouraging and helping contestants get comfortable with performing on a big stage for the first time. This is something that many dancers, after all, don’t feel like they would ever get the opportunity to otherwise do.
