‘CSI’ season 14, episode 5 preview: First video of 300th episode, Marg Helgenberger’s return

What's next? -Next week, “CSI” is billing itself as having a “major television event,” and for what we think is a pretty good reason. After all, how many opportunities do you get to have a 300th episode? Outside of this, the only question that you have to ask is the following: Given that we are looking at a landslide hour here, who are we going to see return?

Well, we have one name for you now in Marg Helgenberger. The longtime former cast member will be back as Catherine, as she helps the team to solve a case that also happens to be very firmly rooted in the show’s past. Basically, the oh-so tiny synopsis below helps to sum it up:

“Catherine Willows returns to help the CSIs solve a cold case that has haunted the team for 14 years.”

So why is this show managing to succeed in so many different ways where others have failed? It’s because “CSI” has done a very smart job over the years of never prioritizing the individual above the many. This show has always been about the quality of the cases, and the dynamic and tone rather than any one character. That’s why when people have left, the show can persevere, and the producers have always found the right sort of people to step in. What we are left with now is a show that still draws pretty good ratings despite being a dinosaur, and we could actually see it getting a few more seasons of play before coming to a close. When you compare its numbers to some of what the likes of “The Good Wife” and “The Mentalist” are getting, this is almost still a smash hit.

So even if you have not caught a “CSI” episode in quite a long time, perhaps this one will give you that much more of an incentive to tune in and see what happens. If nothing else, it also has Jason Priestley listed as a guest star.

What do you think about this promo, and is there anything that you are hoping to see unfold in this massive celebration of all things “CSI”? Be sure to share some of your thoughts below! Meanwhile, click here if you are interested in reading some more news related to the show.
