‘Beauty and the Beast’ season 2, episode 2 review: Did Cat finally tame the new Vincent?

Are Cat and Vincent back together again on “Beauty and the Beast”? You’re not going to be too happy if you have been rooting for these two hard since the beginning of the show.

Monday night’s episode had quite a bit going for it, but we have to admit that by the second half of it rolled around, we really were sitting here wondering whether or not anything that we saw in the first half was relevant. Yes, we did see Kristin Kreuk’s and Jay Ryan’s characters do the deed, but minutes later, we saw him tying her up. The level of trust that was there was clearly not enough to make him want to give her the ability to hunt him down. This may very well be the worst one-night stand ever. Add in the corny “maybe I’ll remember if we do it again line,” and oh boy. This was not the way in which we imagine most wanted to see this hookup happen.

The saddest part of the episode came in the moments that followed, where Cat really started to figure out that the man she loves really is no longer the same man at all. He’s extremely dangerous, and Gabe, as untrustworthy as he may be, was right and that there is no real way for the two of them to function as a couple right now. Not only is her memory shot, but this is a guy who doesn’t have any interest in anything other than his own secret mission.

The end of the episode was a game-changer, but we can’t say here overall that this was the strongest episode of the show ever. The one other reveal that does have us excited for the future is the one suggesting that there are many more “Beasts” out there, which is going to certainly raise the stakes for Cat and almost everyone else trying to preserve the balance of the world. To make matters worse, this beast is a female.
