‘The Blacklist’ spoilers: Going beyond ‘The Stewmaker,’ and meeting the next villain

The Blacklist logo any seasonLast week’s episode of “The Blacklist” to us was by and large boring, and we almost prefer the show when it takes on almost a comic-book sort of feel where you have the over-the-top villains for the likes of Liza and the agency to take down. Let’s try to put it into these terms: When your entire show is based upon a powerful criminal deciding to turn himself in and fight for the good team, you have to realize at some point that it is probably a good idea to not take yourself too seriously.

“The Stewmaker,” the killer that will be featured on tomorrow night’s new episode, looks to be the most terrifying and awesome foe that Red and Liz have squared off with this season. This is what has us more excited to see the Courier, another unique villain that is played by none other than “Prison Break” favorite Robert Knepper. He’s not the same sort of character, but he is dangerous thanks to his abilities to stay anonymous no matter what is being thrown against him. Take a look at the synopsis for this October 21 episode below:

“Red (James Spader) finds out that The Courier (guest star Robert Knepper) – a middle man that no one crosses – is delivering a package worth millions of dollars to an Iranian spy. Only the Courier is a ghost no one including Red, knows what he looks like. While racing to stop the mysterious criminal transaction, Liz (Megan Boone), inadvertently finds herself thrust into a dangerous kidnapping plot. Meanwhile, Ressler (Diego Klattenhoff) must finally accept that Liz is a valuable asset to the team.”

Knepper is a guy that really needs to get a break now when it comes to being a valuable part of a show, even as a guest star. After all, he was a part of “Cult,” the best show on The CW in the spring that around 3 or 4 people actually watched to start to finish, and he was also the lone light in the final season of “Heroes.” Therefore, being a part of something that people are watching has to feel almost like a revelation.
