‘The Big Bang Theory’ season 7, episode 4 review: Is ‘Raiders of the Lost Ark’ ruined for you?

Here it is -There is a part of us that really wants to know just how tonight’s “Big Bang Theory” episode was really conceptualized in the first place. Given that we have never really heard much of Sheldon Cooper talking about “Raiders of the Lost Ark” before tonight, we like to personally believe that this was something born out of a writers’ room debate when someone suggested that the Indiana Jones movie was inherently flawed, and a massive debate broke out.

While the choice in film seemed somewhat random and not as geeky as some of Sheldon’s other obsessions, this still was a great premise for an episode in that it actually got the Amy and Sheldon characters to go at each other in a pretty funny way, as Sheldon tried to find a way to ruin something for her. “Little House on the Prairie” produced some laughs, but without a doubt the zinger about Sheldon trying to ruin “Garfield” was by far the best part of the entire half-hour.

The rest of the episode was somewhat less successful. The idea of Leonard being “sad” in an effort to get anything he wanted out of Penny was something so dated and sitcom-y that it was not entertaining at all. The only thing that was good about it was that they got an appearance from Christine Baranski out of it via Skype. Raj and Stuart trying to date online was a little funnier, but also very realistic and a little sad in that it didn’t matter what the two did: They were still single. We do like the involvement of the comic-book store owner when he gives Raj another single friend. The abundance of relationships has occasionally tipped the balance of realism on here.
