‘Brooklyn Nine-Nine’: For orders more scripts, but no word on full-season pickup
While this may not be the great news that everyone is hoping for just yet, Fox is at least showing a moderate amount of confidence in “Brooklyn Nine-Nine.” After all, the network just decided to order more scripts of the police drama. There is no concrete number on it just yet, but TVLine claims that the order is for “several” more scripts of the police show … and that is reason enough to celebrate.
So why is the show getting this kind of support so early in the run? It may be seen as a vote of reassurance to a show that has not exactly won the ratings that it probably deserves right now. However, it is extremely well-reviewed, even to the point that we have proclaimed it to be the funniest new show on the fall schedule (and we still stand by that claim). Its biggest obstacle right now? Airing at a time that puts it up against “Agents of SHIELD,” “The Voice,” and “NCIS.” There’s not too many shows that could withstand this sort of pain and suffering, but we hope that “Brooklyn Nine-Nine” will be a slow build that may not take down some of these other juggernauts, but will at least be close to their playing field.
Ultimately, though getting more scripts may not end up meaning very much at all. We saw something similar at the end of the day from Fox’s “Ben and Kate,” but we quickly saw this materialize into not much of anything when the dust settled at the end of the day. Only a few of the scripts ended up being made, and the show is now canceled. (This did work out pretty well for Dakota Johnson, though, given that she is now starring in the “50 Shades of Grey” movie.)
