‘Agents of SHIELD’ episode 3 preview: First look at ‘The Asset’

If you have enjoyed the run that Marvel’s “Agents of SHIELD” has been on for the first two episodes, don’t really expect much of anything to change for what you see next week. The biggest change typically happens for a show between the second and third episodes, and now we are in a position where the quality will hopefully stay fairly constant the rest of the way.

Episode 3 is entitled “The Asset,” and this is not something that is going to be hard to figure out in terms of way. As the synopsis via ABC points out rather perfectly, the hour is going to revolve very much around a journey to try and track down someone who is very important to what the organization is trying to pull off:

“When the brilliant scientist, Dr. Franklin Hall, is kidnapped, Agent Coulson and his S.H.I.E.L.D. agents must race against the clock to locate him. Skye is their only way in–pushing the team to their limits when the entire plan turns upside-down.”

There are also a couple of bizarre things about the promo below that stand out almost right away.

1. Is it really that cool of an idea to hype up something as “the most bizarre case yet” when you are only three episodes in? We’re not really talking about an enormous sample size here to choose from.

2. The encouragement by producers to try and “watch live” is somewhat puzzling, especially when you consider that this is not a show that really needs the promote live viewership that much. Did ABC not see the ratings for their own premiere?
