There are two games that we love to play when it comes to the fall season and the lineup of shows: Trying to figure out what is going to be the first series picked up for a full season, and then also trying to figure out what show is going to be the first one to be canceled outright.
When it comes to Marvel’s “Agents of SHIELD,” we have to say at the moment that we could see it picked up as early as this coming week based on what the ratings turn out to be. Its 4.7 rating in the 18-49 demographic (live+same-day viewing) was the biggest debut for any series in years, and with the live+3 data included, that rating has gone up almost to a 6.5 rating. The only show that probably fared better in this metric during premiere week was the monster known as “The Big Bang Theory.” While the budget for this show has to be a high, and early pickup here would be something valuable to the franchise so that the writers can start to ponder over just what they want to do next.
The irony here is that we would not be shocked to see ABC’s Tuesday night lineup have the first major success story and the first canceled show. We don’t know what they were thinking in the first place putting “Lucky 7” on this night. It has no real connection to Marvel at all, and it managed this past week to squander a huge percentage of its lead-in to the point that even “Low Winter Sun” could relate on a certain level.
You can take a look at what “Agents of SHIELD” has planned for the rest of the season here, and the question we will ask of you is this: Do you think that this will be the first show picked up for a full year? Be sure to share your thoughts below!
