‘The Amazing Race 23’ preview: Take another look at season, cast

Are you ready for the return of “The Amazing Race“? Although it was literally just a little over a week and a half ago that we said our goodbye to “The Amazing Race Canada,” we are ready to start talking about the original version yet again. Ironically, it’s not actually the best anymore. Despite only being in Canada, the neighbors to the north did an outstanding job with casting, challenges, and actually giving you a sense of location every leg.

Now, we like to think that the gauntlet has been somewhat thrown to the American version, and there are some reasons to be excited based on the promo. We have what basically amounts to LARPing as a challenge, along with various stunts to test your deepest, darkest fears.

As for the cast, we’re currently still somewhat “meh.” Do we really need more dudes with beards, young women who provide some sort of function at sporting events (in this case “ice girls”), or exes to fight with each other? We don’t dig all the sports teams on this year, but we do admittedly like Chester & Ephraim and hope they go far. They’re not the super-wealthy NFL stars who are mocking the 99% by being there, and they have a great sense of humor and aren’t going to be so dominant that it’s annoying. Also, we’re all about Leo & Jamal! While the show has always been diverse, we can only think of one team with Middle Eastern roots to grace the show before these guys … and that team was eliminated halfway into the first episode.
