‘The Big Bang Theory’ season 7 spoilers: Is a Leonard – Penny engagement coming?

When “The Big Bang Theory” returned to TV last night, didn’t you find yourself celebrating at one point over seeing Leonard and Penny together again? While you may be happy that the boating trip is over, it feels like you are going to be waiting for a while longer before anyone ends up putting the ol’ ring on it and getting married a la Howard and Bernadette.

Speaking on the subject in a new interview with E! News, executive producer Steven Molaro basically made it clear that he and the writers are not against the idea of making such a glorious thing happen; however, it’s going to be a little bit of time before we get there:

“That’s a big step for the series and that’s a big step for the couple. There’s a lot of growth that can come about in both characters before we can make that move.”

What makes the relationship trajectory of all of the characters work right now is that they are seemingly in different spots. You have the married couple in Howard and Bernadette who are hopefully not thinking of kids anytime soon (mostly because we hate the notion of that is the only thing that happens for married characters on TV), and then you have two people in Leonard and Penny who are reasonably close to taking another step, and then Sheldon and Amy who are together, but probably light-years away from a firm commitment. Then, you have Raj … who at least can communicate with women now. Given that Kate Micucci is returning to the show later this fall as Lucy, anything can happen from that perspective.
