‘Criminal Minds’ season 9 spoilers: AJ Cook on learning more of JJ’s past
Ready for the “Criminal Minds” premiere to be here? We hope so, since the show will be back on CBS in a matter of hours with the first of two episodes that blend together. But in even stretching beyond that, season 9 is going to revolve in some ways around answers, but not just for the cases that are presented; instead, we are going to have answers pertaining to some of our characters, and a little bit about the history between them that we may not know about.
One such example of that? Learning more about the year JJ was away from the team, and the past connection she has with new section chief Mateo Cruz, who will be joining the show a few episodes in. Speaking to TVLine on this very subject, AJ Cook explained a little about what she is very much looking forward to seeing here:
“I’ve always gone to the writers asking about who JJ is, so it’s really exciting for me that we’re going to get some answers. Season 9 is really about learning more backstory for all of our characters, and we’ll be doing a lot of that in a flashback format. But yeah, JJ’s getting a little attention because we just don’t know too much about her — and there is this “connection” between her and our new section chief, and that’s going to raise some eyebrows.”
Cook’s story is going to be particularly significant in the upcoming 200th episode, which is being thought of in some ways as a cornerstone. It’s one that viewers also expect a little something extra for, and the challenge for the cast and the writers is to deliver that.
