‘The Blacklist’ episode 2 preview: How James Spader, Megan Boone move forward

The Blacklist logo any seasonThe season premiere of “The Blacklist” tonight was excellent, and anchored by James Spader, we potentially have the strongest new drama on TV this fall. But can the show keep it up with tighter filming schedules, and with cases that start to become a little bit more routine as time passes? That is where trouble could come up now. At least the promo for next week’s episode definitely looks exciting, and it is one that is a very different sort of episode than what we saw tonight. There is an undercover mission, and Elizabeth Keen is going to have to show off a very different side of her training.

Want to know more beyond the promo? Then take a look at the official synopsis that was released already by NBC:

“Red (James Spader) predicts an impending catastrophe, rooted by the work of an assassin, called ‘The Freelancer.’ Together, Liz (Megan Boone) and Red go undercover to prevent from having his next target, Floriana Campo (guest star Isabella Rossellini) from being killed. Elsewhere, Ressler (Diego Klattenhoff) and newly re-hired CIA agent, Meera Malik, (Parminder Nagra) who’s been added to Red’s private security detail, keep an eye on them from a distance. Meanwhile, Liz considers what she should do next concerning Tom (Ryan Eggold) and the mysterious box she found hidden under the floorboards.”

In case you were wondering, Nagra’s character of Malik is the sort that typically is added after a pilot in a series regular post. There are always a few tweaks that are made, and she should help to round out the show moving forward. Of course, Liz and Red have much more important things to worry about as this mystery develops. Expect this to be what we like to call a “procedural with a twist.” There will still be a larger story playing out.
