2013 Emmys: Jane Lynch tributes Cory Monteith in moving moment
The 2013 Emmys had more this year than just comedy and some trophies being handed out to some of the biggest stars in entertainment; it also had tributes to some of the fallen actors of the past year.
While we had some bizarre controversy over whether or not a young actor like Cory Monteith should be included in the same breath as many other screen legends, he was, and it was a lovely moment for the show. The way that these segments worked on the show was that someone close to the deceased stood up and talked about their experiences while there were some pictures in the background. When it comes to Cory, the person who was tributing him was none other than Jane Lynch.
Jane’s speech was soft, moving, and a reminder of how Cory was to everyone who knew him: Kind, goofy, and someone who was really just fun to be around. Jane did at the same time also make a point to mention the sad way in which he did pass away after suffering from addiction. This is something that “Glee” is not going to address directly in their tribute episode airing on Thursday, October 10; as a matter of fact, they are not planning at all to reveal even how Finn Hudson dies on the show itself.
In the end, the Emmys made a controversial decision to split up their “In Memoriam” moments so that they took place throughout the entire show. But, we appreciated the sentiment very much, and including Monteith in the tributes was a great way to honor the generation of fans who came to know him and love him.
