‘New Girl’ season 3, episode 1 review: Nick vs. Mexican jail
Throughout most of season 2, we had one clear opinion about “New Girl“: This is one of the best shows on TV. It was funny, weird, and it also got progressively more insane as the show went along.
For the show’s season 3 premiere, we really had everything that we wanted and then some as “All In” showed us everything, as Nick and Jess went on a Mexican getaway that was really all about his own insecurity that his relationship with her was not going to last if they ended up going back to the apartment. There were so many little highlights in here, including Nick frightening a child, resort jail having reruns of “Ugly Betty,” and learning that Winston was colorblind when he was trying to fight to keep his shoes instead of them becoming collateral.
Back at the loft before any of the Mexico madness extended to them, Schmidt had to deal with a separate decision: Whether or not he was going to choose to be with either Cece or Elizabeth. His decision for at least a good while was to make no decision at all, and that he would try to just bide his time until figuring out what he wanted to do.
The fact that Schmidt did not choose during the episode who he wanted was actually rather nice, mostly because it gave us a different little flavor than the standard premiere. This looks like the story will play out a while longer, which is great for anyone who loves Merritt Wever. (Hannah Simone is a regular, so she is not going anywhere regardless.)
