‘Good Morning America’: Britney Spears announces Planet Hollywood residency with spectacle
There are so many questions that we have in regards to what “Good Morning America” chose to do on Tuesday morning, but we unfortunately don’t think that we are going to really be getting answers.
So the idea here was for the show to announce Britney Spears’ Las Vegas residency at Planet Hollywood, which to us is something that they could have just done in the studio or that Britney could have done with some sort of flashy / funny YouTube video. However, what we had instead was some massive spectacle out in the Mojave Desert, where hundreds of people dressed as schoolgirls were arranged while Britney, sporting a set of sunglasses and looking none too thrilled to be out there at 4:00 in the morning, helped to reveal the news about her new gig. She will perform close to 50 shows a year, and be paid around $15 million annually for it according to TMZ. Not a bad gig at all, and you know that Britney will draw in people from all over the country.
We don’t dispute the announcement as a big thing for Spears’ career, but the whole way that this was done just felt awkward and uncomfortable. Wouldn’t this have been so much better if Britney had went on a different show, such as “Ellen” or even a late-night talk show? The best part of her entire appearance came today via the pre-taped interview, where she was at least a little bit more open about what her show would contain, and whether or not she would allow either of her two kids to go on stage with her.
What do you think of the way that “Good Morning America” handled this big reveal? As always, we want to hear your thoughts below.
