‘American Horror Story: Coven’ spoilers: First look at Patti LuPone

Take a look -There are going to be many interesting guest stars on “American Horror Story: Coven” when the show picks back up on FX, but one that will certainly be bringing with her plenty of prestige is none other than Patti LuPone. The Broadway star will have a major role in the story this year, but she is not going to be playing one of the witches at the center of the show.

On the contrary, executive producer Tim Minear says (per TV Guide) that LuPone’s character is someone who is actually going to be squaring off with Fiona, the Supreme Witch played by Jessica Lange, and also Fiona’s daughter Cordelia:

“Patti will be playing someone who will go up against Fiona and her daughter Cordelia … Patti’s character is a bit of a holy roller who has recently lost her husband under suspicious circumstances.”

Could this mean that Patti’s character is out for some sort of revenge, thinking that her husband’s death involved witches in some form? This would at least be a pretty capable motive to want to go after some of these people and take them down. It is going to be important for this Coven to have some sort of adversaries, given that there are not many out there that are known about at the moment. All we know is that Lange, Paulson, and Kathy Bates are presumably going to be playing the three women who lead up some of the last witches that are still alive and practicing, and they will also be working to educate some of the younger generations as to how to keep their talents alive.
