‘Dexter’ season 8, episode 11 review: Could two minutes ruin the farewell tour?
As great as Sunday night’s “Dexter” was for the majority of the episode, we cannot help and sit here and feel like the way in which it ended was a little too convenient to keep Dexter Morgan in the country, and involved in what is going to be a pretty catastrophic ending to his journey.
What we are talking about here is effectively pretty simple: That a U.S. Marshal could be so involved in trying to stop Hannah and having access to all sorts of information, but still has no idea that there was a TV report that aired the night before about Oliver Saxon, with a picture of him attached. How he fell for the sight of Saxon tied up remains a major mystery, and the biggest problem with the events leading up to Debra Morgan being shot.
Is Jennifer Carpenter’s character really dead? The good news here is that for the time being, she is at least very much still alive. The preview proved that. But with this being said, she is still in a very bad way as it appears as though she is very badly wounded. Saxon is still alive and out there, and the worst part of this is that Dexter may not know it until it is too late.
Save for this one terrible moment that forces us to suspend belief for the ending, we rather enjoyed almost everything else. Hannah was kept to a minimum and we saw a different side of her character, and the moments involving the end of Harry Morgan were rather touching. We thought that we would have a problem with Dexter suddenly not feeling the urge to kill, but that didn’t bother us. Why? He’d found a better way to live with someone who actually understands him. Without feeling the pull of the world against him, he no longer had the need to lash out.
As for how this story will end, it certainly does not look good. Dexter is not only in trouble because of Saxon, but Elway is going to be involved in this as well. There’s also a chance that Miami Metro finally starts to connect some of the dots on him … and in conclusion here, pretty much everyone not named Hannah is a potential adversary.
We’re just going to have to wait and see … and the wait until next week may be the most excruciating one in the show’s eight-year history.
