‘True Blood’ season 7 debate: Who should Anna Paquin’s Sookie end up with?

Now that we know for sure that “True Blood” season 7 will be the final year for the show, we like to think that it does change the game somewhat for what is going to be coming up the rest of the way. The writers have to work now to tie together all of the loose ends in the story, and give fans an ending that they will be happy with. That’s a lot to do in just ten episodes, especially when you have a cast as enormous as this one.

The last time that we did a debate like this, we focused on Alexander Skarsgard’s Eric Northman, who is going to be returning for more next season. Now, why not just talk about our leading lady? Sookie Stackhouse is the undisputed driving force behind the story, and she’s had enough romantic entanglements to get a merit badge for knots.  She’s been with Bill, Eric, Warlow, and now Alcide leading into the start of the new season, and this is without even mentioning the feelings that have occasionally been there for Sam.

So who should she end up with? Let’s look at the possible candidates, based of course on the people that are still alive.

Bill Compton – Regardless of what happened in the book, this is still the most-likely option in our mind for what is going to happen next. He already appears to be on the road to redemption, and with the history that is already there between them, Sookie may be willing to look past the terrible things that he’s done if he proves to have changed.

Eric Northman – Given that the only time she loved him was when he was an innocent shell of himself, we imagine that there is about a 0% chance of this actually happening in the end. Eric’s endgame seems to be more with protecting his “family” than romancing any particular person.

Alcide Herveaux – They are together now, and they do seem to be in love, but is he really the best endgame for Sookie? She seems to be so drawn to chaos, and at the end of the day he could be a little boring for her.

Sam Merlotte – Even though Sam loved her for years, that pregnancy (a storyline that we hate) from Nicole makes this very unlikely. Plus, she seems to see him more as a last resort than a guy that she would ever choose first, and we’d feel kind of bad for Sam if that is what drew them together. We do still like the idea of the two together, but it’s more of an ideal than reality.
