‘Duck Dynasty’ season 4, episode 5 review: The revival of the jackalope

Let’s start here with the former. Willie Robertson was asked to speak at a luncheon by Miss Kay, and there was apparently a hidden clause in there in that he had to cart around an extremely old woman in Carla who basically acts like every other old woman in the world. We get it: She’s slow. We really don’t get that much humor out of seeing Willie complain about some old women, mostly since someday he’s going to be old and slow, as well. There’s just no originality here, even if the story is a real-life one.
Now, we turn to the funny story: Godwin finding out that he was “gifted” a jackalope by a dead relative, and we had an ensuing wild-goose chase to figure out the worth of such fictitious creature. Yes, this was 100% ridiculous and something that obviously never needed to happen, but we’ll take a story featuring the guys goofing off any day of the week. It was really amazing just how little actually happened this week, but how much we liked it anyway.
On a somewhat different note, the amount of “Duck Dynasty” product placement during the show is starting to get irritating. We understand that the Robertson clan is enormously wealthy these days, but what we like about the show is that it creates an environment where it really doesn’t matter how famous that they are. This reminds us that the show is sometimes artificial in how nobody ever mentions their fame onscreen.
