2013 CMA Awards: Kelly Clarkson, Blake Shelton, Carrie Underwood among nominees

The show -We’ve complained time and time again about country music having a trillion different awards shows for whatever reason, but there are some diehard fans out there that surely do not care. The 2013 CMA Awards will air on ABC on Wednesday, November 6, and feature some of the biggest stars that the genre has to offer right now.

We’re not a music site, so don’t expect any real analysis on this. We’re just rooting personally for the artists with major TV ties, whether it be Carrie Underwood (“American Idol” and now Sunday Night Football) or Blake Shelton (“The Voice“). We’re also still somewhat flummoxed about Kelly Clarkson getting a nomination here for Female Vocalist, since she’s really not a country singer so much as a pop singer who has just recorded a few country tracks over the years.

Vocal Duo of the Year – Big and Rich, Florida Georgia Line, Sugarland, Love and Theft, The Civil Wards, Thompson Square

Female Vocalist of the Year – Kelly Clarkson, Miranda Lambert, Kacey Musgraves, Taylor Swift, Carrie Underwood

Male Vocalist of the Year – Jason Aldean, Luke Bryan, Eric Church, Blake Shelton, Keith Urban

New Artist of the Year – Lee Brice, Florida Georgia Line, Kacey Musgraces, Brett Eldredge, Kip Moore

Entertainer of the Year – Taylor Swift, Jason Aldean, Luke Bryan, Blake Shelton, Georgia Strait

As for one final curious observation, isn’t it interesting that Strait is nominated for Entertainer of the Year and not Male Vocalist? It’s like nominating a new artist for the award without giving them a new artist nomination.

What do you think about these nominations? Be sure to share some of your thoughts below, and we’ll have some more news related to the show as we get closer to the date.
