ABC’s ‘Mistresses’ finale spoilers: Alyssa Milano teases story, possible season 2

“Mistresses” may be a small show in terms of its average viewership, but it is nonetheless mighty in the hearts and minds of its fans. The ratings were up pretty significantly for the penultimate episode on Monday night, rising all the way to a 1.4 in the 18-49 demographic when the final numbers were released. When you look at some other summer shows on the schedule, plus the devotion of the viewers, this could be enough for the show to stick around.

But will we know soon? We’ve already made our case for a renewal, and Alyssa Milano has some facts and perspective on her end, as well. Speaking to TVLine, the actress explains that there is still no official announcement, but she feels good based on the reaction online from all parties involved:

“We all hope it happens. Everyone is pulling for us. We were supposed to find out about a pickup by August 15. And the network extended our contracts until September 30. So they have until September 30 to make a decision. It’s tough to imagine that they won’t pick it up, only because the response has been so great from fans and the media. At least that’s where I’m keeping my mind at so I don’t completely stress out about the possibility of it not coming back. But these are the chances that we take when we choose to do television. It’s all such a crapshoot. You just don’t know what’s going to hit.”

One other interesting factor that could play a part in this, but is probably under-reported, is how well the show may or may not do in online viewing. ABC does not announce these figures, but we wonder if there is a sizable audience there given that many may tune in to “Under the Dome” (or at least they did most of the season before “Mistresses” was moved), only to watch this show the next day.
