‘Dexter’ season 8: Watch journey to series finale (so far) on Labor Day Weekend

What's next? -While we know that it is terribly sad that there is no new “Dexter” season 8 episode airing on Sunday night, perhaps you can take this as a little bit of a silver lining: Showtime and its family of networks wants to give you an opportunity to catch up in full.

Therefore, starting on Monday at 1:00 p.m. Eastern time, Showtime 2 is going to air consecutively all nine episodes of the final season to date, which has focused largely on Dexter finding out about a mysterious woman from his past, and used her in part to help fix his relationship with Deb while dealing with a myriad of other problems. Even though it has at times been disjointed in terms of the story and rather chaotic, there is no denying to us that this is nonetheless still must-watch TV for the rest of the year.

Just in case this news is somehow not enough for you, and you also happen to like “Ray Donovan,” know that the first nine episodes of the Liev Schreiber show’s freshman season will also air on Showtime proper on Sunday, September 1 starting at the same time. While this show has had some major bumps in the road, as well, there are also excellent moments if you can sift through some of the dark and often violent undertones.

“Ray Donovan” will officially be back next summer; as for the future of “Dexter,” the jury is still out on a possible spin-off show. The series’ bosses have not exactly closed the book on it, but we’re probably not going to hear anything one way or the other until after the show comes to a close. Otherwise, you run the risk of spoiling something.
