2013 VMAs aftermath: Liam Payne vs. Taylor Swift; Miley Cyrus’ dad speaks out
For whatever reason, we and most other members of the media are still dealing with the aftermath from the 2013 MTV Video Music Awards, which undoubtedly produced some of the wackier moments that we have seen in quite some time.
But before we say anything else, we have to begin with some of the insanity that was Miley Cyrus’ performance on the show. We still do not quite know what in the world she got out of dancing around and shaking her butt provocatively on stage, outside of maybe watching every former fan of “Hannah Montana” become rather uncomfortable. But in spite of uniting most of America against her, she does at least still have her famous daddy in her corner. Speaking to “Entertainment Tonight” today, Billy Ray Cyrus offered up this statement of unconditional love:
“Of course I’ll always be here for Miley. She’s still my little girl and I’m still her dad regardless how this circus we call show business plays out.”
“I love her unconditionally and that will never change.”
We imagine that most of the media was hoping that he would try to pile on her with some sort of nasty comments, and it is for that reason that we’re rather thrilled that he went in a very different direction and didn’t.
As for another interesting story, One Direction member Liam Payne was a bit more opinionated when talking to Us Weekly about Taylor Swift seemingly saying “shut the f**k up” to Selena Gomez while her ex-boyfriend Harry Styles was on stage:
“I just thought it was a bit not needed. I mean, you just won an award, it’s like, concentrate on yourself!”
While tabloids have tried to sensationalize a later quote from Taylor about her song “I Knew You Were Trouble” and turn it into something relating to Styles, the truth is that the song was written months before the two parties started to date.
