2013 MTV VMAs: Justin Timberlake, ‘NSYNC reunion lasts all of a few seconds
Prior to the MTV Videos Music Awards, there was one artist that almost everyone was talking about .. and it wasn’t Katy Perry or Lady Gaga. Instead, it was Justin Timberlake, and it was all thanks to one simple question: Would he actually perform on the show tonight with ‘NSYNC?
Prior to the start of the show, all signs were pointing here to yes. There were some rehearsals that happened with the band, and tonight marked the big performance … which was ironically the worst part of what was an otherwise-excellent performance featuring Justin (the recipient of the Vanguard Award). The choreography wasn’t that tight, and the group really sang together for about 30 seconds. Also, we had someone in the group randomly trying to steal Justin’s thunder with a note at the end of “Bye, Bye, Bye.”
In addition to the part of the performance that took place with the likes of Lance Bass, Chris Kirkpatrick, JC Chasez, and Joey Fatone, Timberlake performed a medley of his greatest hits, which included “SexyBack,” “Your Love,” “Cry Me a River,” and current single “Take Back the Night.”
The other awkward part of this? Having to watch so many constant cutaways to both Taylor Swift and Lady Gaga in the audience, almost as though they were almost as important as the guy actually singing. We get it: Taylor’s famous, and she likes to dance, but do we really need a camera fixated on her the entire time?
