‘Doctor Who’ season 8 spoilers: Steven Moffat teases future with Peter Capaldi
Now that the news has finally started to settle in about Peter Capaldi being the next leading man on “Doctor Who,” there is another interesting question that enters the equation now, as well: Where does the series go from here? This is not the same spry, fresh-faced actor a la Matt Smith to take on the iconic role of The Doctor, so you cannot therefore expect to see the same sort of attitude or tone for the character.
In some of his first public comments since the news about Peter Capaldi’s hire has started to simmer (and by this, we’re not counting anything that was said during the recent special that was simulcast worldwide), executive producer Steven Moffat is excited to paint the part with a different brush. Speaking to Doctor Who TV, he at least gives a few details about what sort of Doctor you can expect to see on the show this time around:
“The Doctor’s always said he’s thousands of years old, and suddenly he’s going to look closer to what we know he secretly is … He’s going to look like an older man. A fiercer man. He won’t be the dashing young man he was a minute ago, and I think that’ll be rather exciting…”
What will largely inform us of the new Doctor’s real style and personality will be the relationship that he has with his companion, which to us certainly suggests that a certain Jenna Coleman is also going to have her hands full starting with the 50th Anniversary Special. “Doctor Who” season 8 starts filming early next year, with filming taking place a little later on in 2014.
