‘The Vampire Diaries’ season 5 spoilers: A new, sad look at Nina Dobrev’s Katherine

College is a time worth celebrating, and we are sure that we will get an opportunity to see plenty of that with Elena Gilbert on “The Vampire Diaries” season 5, but what about the other side of Nina Dobrev’s work responsibilities? She also has Katherine Pierce, a woman who has quite possibly the most interesting story out of anyone on this coming season.

Just try to even start to frame yourself into the situation that Katherine will be in at the start of the season. She is basically going from being an immortal vampire to a young woman, and facing her own mortality for the first time really in centuries. She doesn’t have the same tools that she once did, and this will make life incredibly difficult for her. If she wants to survive, she has to learn to do so via some other means.

The rather sad imagine of Katherine attached here was posted on Twitter by episode director Joshua Butler, who also had the following caption to set the mood and go along with it:

This episode of the season will air on Thursday, October 10, which was actually supposed to be the show’s original return date. We imagine that the premiere for the CW series was pushed forward somewhat so that the show did not have to compete against Cory Monteith’s tribute episode on “Glee,” which is expected to be a big event and draw ratings.
