‘How I Met Your Mother’ season 9 spoilers: Hope for meeting Robin’s mom

If there was ever a time in which to meet Robin’s mother on “How I Met Your Mother” after all of these years, this would be it. This is one of the only parents out there that still remains a mystery, and while we’ve seen her father on a few occasions now (most recently played by Ray Wise), the other half of the equation is a loose end that could finally be tied up.

So what is the latest clue about a mother (but not the mother) entering the equation? The tentative episode title for the ninth half-hour this season is simply “Mom and Dad.” Granted, it may still be quite a major leap to take to automatically assume that this is talking about Robin’s mom. While we assume that Ted, Lily, and Marshall’s families are probably not too involved in the Barney / Robin wedding, this episode could be instead an opportunity to see Frances Conroy and John Lithgow together in a room. Given that we already know that John is returning for at least one episode, you can’t rule that out.

One other thing that we can confirm is that (per SpoilerTV) there will be a rehearsal dinner that takes place during the first half of the season, which means to us that either over half of the season is going to take place the course of the wedding day, or that there is some late-night action that happens on the show prior to the actual ceremony itself. If this is the case, we imagine there being one thing that really comes out of it: A number of exhausted characters falling asleep in the middle of putting their final thought on things.

Production had a brief break following an early start this summer, but “How I Met Your Mother” still has many more episodes to tape prior to the show returning on Monday, September 23 at 8:00 p.m. Eastern time. Stay tuned for more of the latest.
