‘Downton Abbey’ season 4 spoilers: Michelle Dockery on Mary’s new love
Tuesday was a rather significant day in the world of “Downton Abbey,” and there was one primary reason for that: The PBS press event at TCA. Some of the cast members came over to talk a little bit about the hit series, and also some of what you can expect to see happen for their characters in what will be an exciting (and hopefully surprising) fourth season.
Granted, there is always a certain elephant in the room right now when talking about the show, and that is the exit of Dan Stevens. The actor will probably continue to be a focal point in various discussions until the rest of the story gets going, if for no other reason than that he was such a major part of everything that happened beforehand on the series, and there were so many people up in arms about seeing Matthew Crawley die. Let’s just hope that the entire cast is patient throw this.
One person who definitely is clearly getting the most questions about Matthew Crawley? Michelle Dockery. While she told TVLine in a new interview today that she does indeed miss her co-star, she also had a chance to actually talk a little bit about Lord Anthony Gillingham, a man who could end up becoming the new love interest of Mary’s on the show:
“Gillingham is an old family friend. The sisters knew him when we were growing up, and we haven’t seen him since then. A party is organized at the house, and he is invited to it. He’s just a different character. And there’s other potential suitors, as well. It’s not just him. There’s a character called Blake, played by Julian Ovenden. And Evelyn Napier (played by Brendan Patricks) comes back, as well. He was the one who brought the Turkish diplomat along. That was lovely to play scenes with Brendan again because we haven’t seen him since Season 1. They’re very different.”
