‘The Vampire Diaries’ season 5 spoilers: The mystery of Michael Trevino’s Tyler

When you think about it Tyler Lockwood is in many ways a magician just as much as he is a werewolf. We will have him around on “The Vampire Diaries” for a substantial amount of time, and then the character will disappear for long stretches. Last spring, we saw one of the longest disappearances for him yet, as he understandably decided that it was probably not a great idea to hide out in a place in Mystic Falls where Klaus was breathing down his neck.

But does the exit of Klaus mean that we are going to see Tyler making a return? Far from it. As executive producer Caroline Dries says to Wetpaint, there is still going to be something that keeps him from coming back early on in the season; however, when he does return there may be a moment that fans of him and Candice Accola’s Caroline will surely appreciate:

“So where is he is the big question, and when we finally get to see him, it will be like this beautiful, deserving moment that will be hopefully very moving and just kind of make sense.”

What we hope now upon Tyler’s eventual return is that he does have something more substantial to do, and something that is not just reliant on Klaus or any other vampire. What makes him a difficult character to work with sometimes is that you do barely see many other werewolves, and he’s isolated in that way while surrounded by vampires.
