‘Dexter’ season 8 spoilers: Showtime boss does not rule out spin-off possibility
Those pesky “Dexter” spin-off rumors will not go away, even though they have never been confirmed as possibility, and we’re not even halfway through the airing on the show’s final season yet. Really, you just have to take this as some evidence as to how hardcore some of this show’s diehard fans really are, that they are trying to will something, anything to keep “Dexter” going in some way after the flagship series ends this year.
With all of this being said, it would definitely help to quiet down rumors somewhat if the producers would come out and say for sure that the spin-off is not happening … but they’re not doing that. Instead, you have Showtime president David Nevins saying at TCA today that fans can “draw their own conclusions” based on the fact that showrunner Scott Buck has a development deal to stick around for the network. Translation? One is at least being toyed with.
At the end of the day, we’re still leaning towards what is our hot theory based on the way in which the best spin-off series work: Hannah McKay shows back up as a means to not just impact Dexter’s world again, but to pave the way for a separate show about her. She is removed enough from Dexter that it will feel like a different show, but she is close enough to him that the feeling will still remain intact.
But regardless of whether or not this spin-off is about Hannah or someone else, the important thing to remember is that it’s still very early. The idea may not work, and it’s best to not tie yourself down to the idea that the “Dexter” universe can continue. After all, just remember that based on what Nevins said, the finale for Dexter Morgan’s journey is going to be pretty phenomenal.
