‘Nikita’ season 4 spoilers: Could a two-hour series finale be coming?
Let’s start first of all with saying this to “Nikita” fans: While some of the rumors out there are distressing, right now it’s time to be happy given that the show is coming back and you are getting the sort of conclusion that many other shows would ultimately die to have. When you look at the way in which the television industry has gone as of late, any other network would have kicked this show to the curb years ago and probably laughed about it.
Luckily, The CW is not such a network … though their ratings are by and large so low that we are shocked that even the CW kept it around. It’s a thrill to see four more episodes coming that will properly tie together the story, and while the show may not run for an extended amount of time, it does not appear like the plan is to just burn off the hours in bunches of two every week until it’s over.
At the network’s TCA event today, president Mark Pedowitz (in a very good mood thanks to “Whose Line Is It Anyway?” actually turning out to be a hit) suggested that for the time being, the series finale may be the only one to air within a two-hour format:
“The game plan … is individual episodes, though we may end up doing a two-hour finale after we’ve run the first four episodes singularly.”
We’re already hearing that these episodes are going to be among the most intense that the show has produced to date, and will pack some serious emotional punch from start to finish. If that’s the case, we could be in for a heck of a ride … even if it is the equivalent of waiting two hours to get on a roller coaster that lasts for about 30 seconds.
