‘So You Think You Can Dance’: A quick chat with Mariah Spears and Bluprint
Last night’s “So You Think You Can Dance” episode caused us to lose a good percentage of the off-the-beaten path talent this season. Not only did we lose a man in Dorian “Bluprint” Hector who came from the same Dragon House group as last year’s runner-up Cyrus Spencer, but also a rare female krumper on the show in Mariah Spears. The two had been thrown together in recent weeks, after both seeing their original partners eliminated from the show.
We started our brief Q&A with the two Wednesday afternoon by asking about switching partners, and whether this posed another challenge for them that other pairs didn’t have. For them, they really opted to look at this as a more positive experience.
Bluprint – “It was cool. It’s good to work with different people and [see what they work like] versus keeping with the same people every week. We all bond really quickly. Having chemistry wasn’t a problem, and we got right to having fun.”
Mariah – “It’s so cool to see how different people work, and as Bluprint said, we each bonded really quickly, so it’s not hard.”
The two also gave us a quote each about the challenge of really having to do something every week that was different somewhat from what they consider to be their signature style:
Mariah – “It was really difficult because we’ve never done anything like that before, but it just pushes us to work even harder, you know?”
Bluprint – “We were both completely out of element because none of this is our style, but it does push us to make it look like all of these are our style on the show.”
There are still fourteen dancers competing to win the title this season, and you can read more about our take on them (and our fears of Carly Rae Jepsen ever judging again) in the episode review here.
