‘The Originals’ spoilers: Joseph Morgan, Daniel Gillies, and Comic-Con highlights
Before we got to the Comic-Con panel for “The Vampire Diaries” on Saturday, there was another subject that needed to be touched on in the spin-off show otherwise known as “The Originals.” The biggest shocker was that Julie Plec and her staff have seemingly come up with a pretty incredible way in which to mesh the pilot from this show (which aired in April) to its season premiere: By basically telling the same story.
So how is this going to manifest itself? The show is going to marry the content of the pilot with some new footage, in particular some clips trying to show how exactly Elijah ended up in New Orleans, and to tell the tale from an entirely different point of view. We also learned that Rebekah will not be around until the second episode of the season, as she still has unfinished business to handle with Matt over on “The Vampire Diaries.”
In speaking about Elijah’s move first and foremost, Plec had the following to say about Daniel Gillies’ character leaving someone behind in Katherine that he did care about:
“Elijah goes to New Orleans to figure out what his brother is up to … We’ll see similar scenes and moments that we didn’t get to see in the pilot.”
Meanwhile, Joseph Morgan had a pretty funny explanation as to why he and Phoebe Tonkin’s Hayley hooked up, which leads to the major twist of the show in that she is currently expecting a baby:
“He’s had two and a half seasons of celibacy, so he has some pent up energy … I got away with two seasons of having a shirt on ‘The Vampire Diaries.’ I think that’s got to be a record.”
