More people watch ‘Sharknado’ re-airing than original premiere
Who would have imagined that a movie all about sharks flying around in the air would have such strong legs? When it first premiered a little over a week ago, “Sharnado” was one of the most ridiculous but also entertaining phenomenons of the year. It drew out celebrities from Wil Wheaton to Mia Farrow talking about it online, and it completely took over Twitter in the way that new episodes of “Scandal” traditionally do when they air. Therefore, there had to have been a certain level of surprise when the ratings came in, and the Syfy original movie did not even perform as well as some of their other B-movie creations over the years.
However, upon its repeat viewing Thursday, “Sharknado” improved on its original numbers thanks to word-of-mouth, and went up to 1.9 million viewers. It also improved its numbers in the 18-49 demographic by 24%, which is probably further justification to start calling up Tara Reid now to make sure that she is ready for a sequel.
Syfy is personally doing just about everything that they possibly can to prepare themselves for more shark phenomenons, including an entire marathon of shark-related movies next Saturday. All of this (at least to us) is basically proof that you can’t keep a good shark down for long, especially when we have so many celebrities clamoring to celebrate how the idea of them flying around in the air is so bad, but also oh-so good. We’re going to need a bigger chopper … and for production, the goal now has to be to go above and beyond to bring the sequel to us with an extra layer of cheese.
