Comic-Con 2013: ‘Psych’ season 8, musical premiere date; James Roday joins Twitter

Psych

Thursday afternoon marks the official beginning for Comic-Con in San Diego, and for “Psych” fans, it marks the day that they’ve all been waiting for. Not only were some of the first bits of information announced about the upcoming musical episode airing later this year, but we also learned the answer to a valuable question: What episode did the fans pick to be made for the eighth and likely-final season.

First of all, let’s start with the breaking social-media news in that James Roday is on Twitter! He literally posted his first message during the panel discussion this afternoon, which was short but oh-so sweet:

“My dearest Psych-Os…tweet tweet. #Suckiiiiiiiiiit”

When it comes to the upcoming musical episode, we have an official premiere date now in Sunday, December 15, and also a teaser (via The Hollywood Reporter) along with the following logline:

“Shawn and Gus track down escaped playwright mad man named Z (Rapp), who six years earlier was deemed criminally insane after locking a critic in a back room of the theater that he burned to the ground. Shawn and Gus are forced to consult with the one person Z confided in while in the institution, a dangerous villain from Shawn’s past.”

Finally, there is some long-awaited news on a certain season 8 episode to share. Remember last month, when you had an opportunity to vote for one of your favorite pitches for the show to turn into a full-fledged episode? Well, you picked “A Nightmare on State Street,” a wacky creation written by Roday where Gus enters dream therapy to try and figure out the cause for his recent night terrors. It’s going to be awesome, at least if the content lives up to the premise.
