‘The Walking Dead’ season 4 spoilers: Scott Gimple coy on Glenn / Maggie’s future

The Walking Dead, Lauren CohanIt may just be us, but the idea of seeing something romantic take place on “The Walking Dead” season 4, at least beyond what we have already come to see, is rather exciting. After three years of violence, why not stop and smile for a few minutes? This is what made a show like “Lost” so engaging; while you had moments like it started to feel more and more like these people had no opportunity of happiness at all, there were also times in which it felt like there was hope, and not as much of a reason to be afraid.

So could it be possible that there is a Glenn / Maggie wedding upon us soon? We’d be all for it, given that this something completely different and a welcome twist from what we have seen on the show already. However, showrunner Scott M. Gimple is keeping his cards rather close to the vest rest now, not saying much of anything except for the following in a new interview with TV Guide:

“As far as the sweetness goes, as far as love goes, as far as emotional moments between the characters, it’s a huge part of the season … Horror doesn’t really mean anything if you don’t really care about the characters.”

This statement falls in line with everything that Gimple has said so far this year about trying to transition “The Walking Dead” into something that is more character-based, and not necessarily something that feels the need to rely so heavily on stories themed all around violence or action. We’ve also learned already that there could be bumps in the road for Glenn and Maggie ahead, so if there are happy times coming up, they could be paired with something frustrating.
