‘Doctor Who’ 50th anniversary: Celebrate with a giant … maze?

Doctor WhoJust in case you ever for one split-second doubted whether or not “Doctor Who” fans were among some of the most passionate in the known universe, this should serve as all of the proof you ever needed that these people are beyond faithful in their support of the show.

For a prime example, we turn to what is one of the craziest stories we’ve seen all week. Farmer Tom Pearcy has turned his famous York Maze into what is a gigantic virtual image of a Dalek that is 300 meters long, and could be quite confusing for some patrons to figure out. (He also has images of the first Doctor William Hartnell carved along with the likeness of Smith.)

So what would ever compel someone to put in this sort of insane effort? Speaking on this very subject, Pearcy had the following to say recently:

“Like many kids I grew up watching Doctor Who from behind the sofa and fell in love with the show … I wanted to create a piece of art as a tribute to the 50th anniversary and also make it interactive so visitors can have their own adventures in time and space inside the maze.”

This is surely one of just what will be many tributes to “Doctor Who” prior to the airing of the 50th anniversary special, featuring appearances from many stars from the show past and present, on November 23.

To you, what is the most passionate support of “Doctor Who” that you have ever seen? We want to hear some of your thoughts below! If you want to read more of what Steven Moffat had to say recently about Matt Smith and the casting process for the 12th Doctor, all you have to do is visit the story over here.
