‘Dexter’ season 8, episode 3 preview: Dr. Vogel asks about Deb

DexterOn Sunday night’s episode of “Dexter” season 8, Dr. Evelyn Vogel is going to try her best to do some of what many therapists are known for: Bringing family members together. However, you should be very well aware at this point that she is really no ordinary therapist. She’s an expert on psychopaths, and only a woman in this position would ever ask someone like Dexter why he didn’t murder his sister.

So how does this conversation even come up in the first place? In the sneak peek below, you can see Vogel explain to Dexter why with many of the people in his position, especially when you consider Harry’s code, one of the primary goals is to make sure that you never get caught, that way you can continue to live your life by whatever set of rules you desire. However, in leaving Deb alive, Dexter made it very clear that there were some things that even he was not willing to do.

Upon receiving her question about why Deb was spared, Michael C. Hall’s character answers in a simple-enough fashion: That he loves her, and would never do anything to take her life. A noble answer for sure, but what exactly does it mean? Can a serial killer really love anyone other than themselves? The humanity of Dexter is probably something that Vogel is going to have a field day in trying to explore from here on out.
