At the end of the day, we have a feeling that this news will not come as much of a surprise to anyone; however, NBC has made a move to send “Betty White’s Off Their Rockers” packing after a two-season run on the network. The hidden-camera prank show has spent most of its second season shuffled across various time-slots on the network this year, culminating in what was effectively a burn-off this summer.
Really, the irony here is that when compared to some of the network’s other scripted shows (i.e.”Community”), the ratings for White and company were not so bad. The problem here is that despite being a good fill-in, there’s no reason for people to keep watching over time. Once you’ve watched it one or two times, there’s not really anything else worth checking out here. Plus, NBC already has a trove of other comedy series coming up that will pander to the mainstream audience just as much (if not more) than this show did.
Even with this cancellation, we imagine that Betty is probably not off somewhere shedding any tears over it. Just look at everything else that she is doing! She’s still a part of TV Land’s “Hot in Cleveland” several seasons in, and she also has her charity work and involvement with animals and the Los Angeles Zoo. In the midst of what has been a pretty incredible career for her, we have a feeling that this is really going to just be a blip on the radar.
