House of the Dragon season 3 premiere ratings: Where they stack up

A few days have now passed since the House of the Dragon season 3 premiere over on HBO — so what can we say about its ratings?
Well, the big-picture take at this point is that the Game of Thrones prequel is still enormously successful, but not on the same level as the second season so far. According to Deadline, 21.5 million global viewers caught the first episode within the first three days of viewing on the network and HBO Max. This is a drop of about 8% versus season 2, but still an incredible showing — a good thing given the massive budget at play.

So are there some reasons for the viewership dipping slightly? There is a chance that the series did lose some people following a polarizing end of season 2. However, there may be other people who get to the show eventually. This is a competitive media landscape right now, especially with the World Cup ongoing — one of the most-watched global events out there.
The most important thing at present is simply noting that House of the Dragon season 4 is already officially set to happen, no matter what the viewership is over the rest of the way. Our general hope is that moving forward, the series may be able to regain some viewers it lost just from the vantage point of quality alone. The premiere episode featured the highly-anticipated Battle of the Gullet and from where we are sitting at present, we would argue that it was somehow every bit as entertaining as we could have ever hoped. We just have to hope that everyone is able to keep pushing forward where there is both a lot of drama and plenty of surprises all across the board.
