FX’s ‘The Strain’ casts ‘Lord of the Rings’ actor Sean Astin

FXIf there is one upcoming project that we are extremely excited about in the future, it’s FX’s “The Strain.” Why? A few reasons. The director of the pilot is none other than “Pacific Rim’s” Guillermo del Toro, the showrunner is Carlton Cuse of “Lost” fame, and the cast is impressive and includes the likes of Corey Stoll, Mia Maestro and John Hurt.

Now, we know that there is yet another popular actor who is going to be signing up for the show. Sources confirm that Sean Astin, who you likely know best for his roles in “The Goonies” and the “Lord of the Rings” franchise, is going to appear on the show in what is for now an unspecified role.

For those of you who are looking to find out a little bit more about the story here, though, “The Strain” revolves around a deadly virus that has some links to vampirism (not the shirtless or sparkly kind), and the team that looks to put a stop to it. In some ways, we feel that this show is almost going to be a combination of some ways of “The Walking Dead” and “True Blood,” and considering the success of those shows, FX has to be feeling pretty good about their chances of having a winner on their hands.

Heck, we’ve learned already that this is not a network that is going to put something on the air unless they fully believe in their product. Some of their recent new series include “American Horror Story” and “The Americans,” as well as “The Bridge,” premiering tonight.

What do you think about this casting, and are you getting more and more excited about the idea of this show? If you want to read some more news related to FX’s slate, just be sure to visit the link here.
