Love Island USA season 8: Why Alannah Keyser left Casa Amor

Within hours after making her debut within the Love Island USA – Casa Amor twist, it became clear that Alannah Keyser would be kicked off the show.

Why? Well, it is rather simple: The discovery of highly offensive language being used via social media, including her lip-syncing the n-word during a video. This came faster than almost any other contestant we can remember! The show has a history of booting contestants who have committed such acts in the past, both in terms of last season and then this one, where Vasana was removed before the season even started.

What made the situation with Alannah a little bit complicated is that while Love Island USA films in close to real time, there is still a little delay between what happens in the villa and what we actually see on TV. This is why she was present for the past couple of episodes, including the start of tonight’s Casa Amor installment. Then, Iain Stirling announced that she had “left Casa Amor,” meaning that Zach was left on his own. That did create a complicated situation for him, as there was an unbalanced number of men and women. This is still the right thing, as the producers would have set him up for a terrible position if he and Alannah left the show together and he had to answer to things he was not aware of during filming.

Is production and casting going to get better at rooting out people who have made these comments in advance? That remains to be seen, but until that happens, we imagine that they will continue to come under fire. (In some instances, these comments were not public at the time casting was underway.) At least with Love Island USA, they have shown now a precedent for eliminating contestants the moment that these offensive posts are found.

For now, we welcome all of your thoughts on the subject below. We will have further information on this subject the moment that it becomes available.
