‘Doctor Who’ season 8: Matt Smith further talks exit, staying off Twitter
Another day passes, and we are thus another day closer to the end of the Matt Smith era on “Doctor Who.” The actor will be saying goodbye to the show following the Christmas special later this year, but he will also be leaving behind plenty of fond memories. Plus, he also is giving the BBC plenty of time to find their next leading man, which to us means that the series will be able to grow and evolve in a new and exciting way.
Even though Smith feels like now is the best time for him to be hanging up the famous jacket and bow-tie, that does not mean that leaving the role of Time Lord is an easy thing to do. As a matter of fact, he told The Next Web the following about having to go through with it:
“It’s a really hard show to leave, because it’s a wonderful show, and I’ve loved making it and working with Steven Moffat. But when you gotta go, you gotta go.”
Smith also opened up on a subject that has become a hot topic at times among many Whovians: Why doesn’t he have Twitter? The answer is really rather expected:
“Because I spend enough time looking down at my phone, and I believe that with the advent of technology we communicate less as people sometimes. I think it’s important to keep your head up, and look out at the world. I don’t know really, possibly because of my job, Twitter and Facebook aren’t the right environment for me at the moment.
“And it’s just not my thing. I don’t really like it, I just don’t see the point. Who cares what I am doing? Who cares!”
Smith is not alone in this philosophy, as co-star Jenna-Louise Coleman must feel similar, given that she also does not have an account on the site.
