Euphoria season 3 finale: Who is Martin McQueen?

We knew that the Euphoria season 3 finale on HBO had a lot to tie together, but it chose to end in a rather fascinating place: A new beginning. Much of the focus of the final twenty minutes was on Ali, Colman Domingo’s character who did what he could to get justice after Rue’s death. He murdered Alamo Brown, and then began a search to better understand the sense of peace she once felt.
In doing so, he also introduced himself under a new name: Martin McQueen. Per Variety, this is his given name prior to converting to Islam.

For a series that has been so much about chaos, a lot of the end of Euphoria was about grace. We watched as Martin led grace and did his best to try and find a sense of good in the world. As for the specific intentionality around this name, very little is certain — however, the last name McQueen itself does invoke a lot of classic action movies, and we do think that so much of the third season was meant to invoke the past in an array of forms.
You can certainly argue that a lot of different stories on the show still remain incomplete — yet, Rue was always the core of everything. If we are to look at this world through that prism, at least everything was wrapped up in a way that felt just.
Is this truly the end?
Well, technically, nothing is certain. For now, here is what creator Sam Levinson had to say to Esquire:
“I mean, I don’t know. I’ve approached every season like it’s the last season. If they say, ‘That’s it, Sam, pack your bags. We don’t need another’ … I do approach it that way, at least for my own kind of sanity. I don’t want to feel like I left anything on the field.”
What did you think about the way that Euphoria season 3 ended with Ali a.k.a. Martin?
